Nonprofit boards play an important role in the nonprofit governance. They’re responsible for strategic planning, oversight and accountability, and financial stewardship. The Board is also responsible to ensure that the organization is honest and transparent with donors and the public. This isn’t an easy task. The Board has many responsibilities, which require a lot of time and effort from the board. It’s essential to have most qualified people on your Board.
A strong Board is made up of diverse individuals with a range of skills and backgrounds that are aligned with the company’s mission. This will provide the Board with a wide range of knowledge and experience to make informed decisions and help guide the organization in the proper direction. The Board must evaluate its own performance, effectiveness and offer ongoing training.
The Board should also be focused and understand the big picture. This means assessing the extent to which the financial activity is in accordance with the budget and determining the price of programs and services, and whether they are cost-effective, and implementing internal controls to prevent theft, loss, or confusion.
The Board should be able to serve as ambassadors and advocates for the Board Meeting organization. They should assist the Executive Director in creating and managing the public image of the organization. They should be available to the media and community, and willing to advocate for the organization when needed.
